COLLAGE TO RESTORE THE EARTH

My creative muse really had fun with this one! I have long enjoyed creating collages with the cut and paste magazines method, so the versatility offered in photoshop was a trip!I enjoyed following the lead of images forming in my head, and then finding photos to give it expression from the web, rather than laboriously looking for them in stacks of magazines....and of course things like desaturation, reducing opacity... and resizing, etc. etc. were not even an option!
I learned a sad truth yesterday when Shawn Moore very kindly took some time with me to help demystify the pathways of a computer. In the process he came across my collage, and liked it...and then informed me that unfortunately it would never look this good if I tried to print it. I explained that I had chosen all "Large" images from the internet in the process of making it....but it turns out that I would have had to make sure that every single image I used had a 300 resolution, and that it wasn't made bigger in the process of using it in my collage...it turns out many of the seperate images I used for this collage will be come pixelated and loose some of there saturation, if I try to print it, and especially if I try to make it bigger. This will only ever look good on the web.I had known to save my final creation at a 330 resolution, but not each individual impoted photo from the web. The process of actually creating a photoshop collage that can be printed out at say a 8x11 size takes quite a methodical approach. Wish I had known for this one...oh well...beginner's un-luck.
